The Gold Coast Horse Races and Racing events are held at the Gold Coast Turf Club which is conveniently located only five minutes from Surfers Paradise Beach and all the major coastal and theme park attractions of the region. Regular Saturday events began in 1971 with the Newmarket – Gold Coast Cup which was a three day grass track carnival. In 1974 the club introduced the Prime Minister’s Cup which began with a prize of $30,000 and has since grown to return total race day prizes over $1,000,000. In total the club now holds approximately 60 race meetings each season including several major events such as January’s Magic Millions Carnival, the Melbourne Cup Race day, Prime Minister’s Cup Carnival, Easter Carnival, Stakes Race day and City Cup Race day. The Club also caters for specific functions both on race days and for special occasions. Venues include the Winners Circle, Dome, Paradise Room, Southern Lawn Marquee, Board Room and the Magic Millions Bar. There are seemingly countless on course bars, restaurants, cafes and bistros.
